Smartwatch fans looking to upgrade from fitness trackers are increasingly turning to more advanced wearables, and one shopper said switching from Fitbit to Google’s latest model has left them ‘pleasantly surprised’. The Google Pixel Watch 3, which is now available for £199 on Amazon, has been gaining attention for combining fitness tracking with everyday smart features.

The Google Pixel Watch 3 is designed to balance fitness tracking with everyday convenience, featuring a larger and brighter display that’s easier to read at a glance. The upgraded Actua screen is twice as bright as previous models, according to the description, with 10% more display space and improved responsiveness, making it simpler to check stats, messages and apps throughout the day.

Battery life is built to last, offering up to 24 hours with the always-on display enabled and up to 36 hours in battery saver mode. The 41mm version also charges faster than before, helping users get back up and running quickly.

On the fitness side, the watch includes tracking powered by Fitbit, allowing users to build personalised workout routines with warmups, intervals and recovery periods. It also offers real-time guidance and form tracking during runs, while Google AI uses past activity, goals and readiness to suggest tailored workouts and coaching directly on the wrist, helping users stay motivated and improve performance over time.

A cheaper option is the Sekonda Black Silicone Strap Fitness Tracker Smart Watch for £40 from Argos. It has features including steps, distance and calorie counters, as well as being able to monitor sleep, heart rate and blood oxygen. It also has eight sports modes.

Currys also has the Apple Watch Series 11 for a more expensive option of £369. Available in black, gold, grey and silver, this one can track sports, steps, distance, calories and sleep, and it has a battery life of up to 24 hours.

The Google Pixel Watch 3 has been rated a high 4.5 out of five stars from more than 700 reviews on Amazon. One person said: “After being a long-term Fitbit user, I was dubious to switch. However, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Unlike a Fitbit, it does need charging daily, it charges much quicker. I pop it on charge while showering, and it’s full by the time I return. Other features are similar to those of a Fitbit, but have the function of texting (typing) and taking calls. Which I find really useful when busy.”

Another wrote: “Made the switch to Google from Apple and, so far, I’m finding the watch really easy to use. It’s comfortable to wear, and the charge lasts well over 30 hours. It syncs well. I also like the round watch face.”

A third customer said: “I love my Pixel watch! It’s got a great sleep tracker and is comfortable on my wrist. The exercise tracker works well, and I love the insights on runs, including heart rate. Battery lasts around 48 hours and is great value.”

Some others did remove a star, as one person said: “Fantastic, does exactly what you need it to do. Very easy to use with a clear, easy-to-read screen. Battery life isn’t brilliant. It only lasts just over a day, but it’s quick to charge.”

Another added: “Bought as a present for my other half and she loves it. Battery life isn’t great, but then it isn’t on the Apple Watch either. Four stars, but if the battery life were better, then it would have been five.”
