Nuki has announced the launch of the Keypad 2 NFC, a new accessory designed to bring contactless unlocking to its range of Matter-enabled smart door locks. The device uses Near Field Communication technology, allowing users to unlock their doors by holding a compatible smartphone or smartwatch close to the keypad. As Nuki’s Smart Lock and Keypad products are sold separately, the new keypad can also be added to existing installations as an upgrade.

The Keypad 2 NFC supports tap-to-unlock via Apple HomeKey or Samsung Digital Home Key when used alongside a Matter-enabled Nuki Smart Lock, a compatible Matter hub, and a supported mobile device. An additional ‘Nuki app mode’ provides contactless unlocking without relying on Matter or digital wallet integration. This option is available to owners of 4th or 5th-generation Nuki Smart Locks with NFC-enabled smartphones, and does not require an additional hub.
In total, the keypad supports five different access methods, including digital home keys, tap-to-unlock in app mode, fingerprint recognition, and personalised entry codes. The device can store up to 20 fingerprints, 35 tap-to-unlock credentials, and 200 access codes. Nuki states that all access events are protected by end-to-end encryption, with user data stored locally by default and optional cloud connectivity available.

Installation is intended to be straightforward, with the keypad mountable using either adhesive strips or screws and without the need for wiring. The unit is manufactured in Europe and carries an IP54 rating for resistance to dust and moisture. Nuki also claims that the keypad and lock are not permanently connected, which helps reduce power consumption and allows for an operating period of around twelve months before battery replacement is required.
The launch coincides with recent developments in smart home interoperability standards. Matter, developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, is designed to enable compatibility across devices from different manufacturers. A newer related specification, Aliro, focuses on secure communication between smart locks and personal devices such as smartphones and wearables. Nuki describes the Keypad 2 NFC as the first keypad for residential electronic door locks to receive Aliro certification.
The Keypad 2 NFC is available now through Nuki’s online store and Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.es, and Amazon.it with a recommended retail price of €179. Information on upgrade options for existing customers is available via the company’s website.
