The war for New York intensifies in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 1, “The Northern Star,” as Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) finds himself facing even greater obstacles in his battle against Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). With the city slipping deeper into authoritarian control and vigilantes becoming the targets of a political crackdown, the season premiere sets the stage for a dangerous new chapter.
Here’s a full recap of everything that happens in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 1.
Daredevil attacks Fisk’s cargo ship
The episode opens with Daredevil infiltrating the Northern Star, a cargo ship connected to Fisk’s controversial Freeport operation. The vessel is secretly transporting military-grade weapons, part of the growing criminal network operating under the mayor’s protection.
Daredevil fights his way through the ship’s crew in a brutal opening sequence. But before he can stop the shipment entirely, the crew receives an order to scuttle the ship if the vigilante appears. Using his heightened senses, Matt realizes what they’re about to do.
Moments before the vessel sinks, Daredevil manages to plant a tracking device inside one of the weapon crates, hoping to trace the shipment later. The Northern Star sinks in the river, leaving the cargo underwater and temporarily blocking access to Fisk’s port. The incident quickly becomes a political and logistical problem for the mayor.

As news of the shipwreck spreads, Fisk is informed that the cargo — and the weapons it carries — are now sitting at the bottom of the river. The situation becomes even more complicated when a CIA operative known as Mr. Charles (Matthew Lillard) arrives.
Charles makes it clear that the agency has its own interest in Fisk’s Freeport operation and the weapons shipment. Although Fisk is used to being the one in control, the interaction reveals that even he may need allies to deal with the growing crisis.
The partnership between Fisk and the CIA hints at a larger conspiracy surrounding the Freeport and the smuggling operations running through New York.
The “superhero trials” begin
Elsewhere, Fisk’s administration launches a legal campaign against vigilantes, referred to as the “superhero trials.” These proceedings aim to justify the arrest and imprisonment of masked heroes operating in the city.
Psychiatrist Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) becomes involved in evaluating individuals connected to these cases. However, she is still traumatized after her encounter with serial killer Muse (Hunter Doohan) in the previous season. During one of her assessments, she experiences disturbing hallucinations of the killer while examining Jack Duquesne, also known as the Swordsman. The moment suggests that Heather’s past trauma may influence her decisions, potentially affecting the outcome of the trials.
Meanwhile, Matt’s colleague Kirsten McDuffie (Nikki M. James) learns that the trials may be little more than a formality — with the verdict already decided against the accused vigilantes.

Later in the episode, former detective Cherry (Clark Johnson) becomes a target of Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF). Agents storm his apartment and interrogate him, attempting to track down Daredevil. Matt arrives just in time to intervene, leading to another violent confrontation with the task force.
However, during the chaos, Cherry suffers a heart attack, leaving Matt momentarily distracted. The moment triggers painful memories of Foggy’s (Elden Henson) death, giving the AVTF agents the opportunity to overpower Daredevil.
Once they have him on the ground, the officers remove his mask — discovering that the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is actually Matt Murdock.
Bullseye’s shocking return
Before the agents can act on their discovery, they are suddenly taken out by a sniper from a nearby building. The mysterious shooter turns out to be Dex, also known as Bullseye (Wilson Bethel), who has been on the run since the previous season.
Moments later, a knife flies through the room and lands in the wall with a message carved into it: “You’re welcome.” The blade also bears Bullseye’s signature target symbol, confirming that he saved Matt — though his motives remain unclear.
