There’s a brand new horror series coming to Netflix this month and it’s set to be a tense, but terrifying, atmospheric watch.
Executive produced by the Duffer Brothers, the duo behind Stranger Things, Something Very Bad is Going to Happen follows Rachel (Camila Morrone) and Nicky (Adam DiMarco) in the lead-up to their ill-fated wedding.
According to the series creator and showrunner Haley Z. Boston, the tone is “unsettling, getting-under-your-skin dread,” as the story puts a chilling twist on the themes of marriage and commitment. Think a sustained sense of suspense and unease, rather than a horror with shock-based tactics. Below, find out everything you need to know about the thrilling new series.
What is Something Very Bad is Going to Happen about?
“If Carrie is horror’s version of a girl becoming a woman, and Rosemary’s Baby is the horrific version of a woman becoming a mother, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is horror’s take on a woman becoming a wife,” the official synopsis for the show reads.

With just five days to go until their big day, Rachel and her fiancé Nicky travel to his family’s holiday home in a snowy forest, where their wedding is due to take place. It should be the happiest time of their lives but for paranoid Rachel, who experiences some “eerie coincidences and dreadful surprises” in the build up to her nuptials, there’s a foreboding feeling that something bad is going to happen. As she prepares to say “I do,” she questions whether she is making a lifelong commitment to the right partner.
“The show is about the fear of marrying the wrong person,” Boston tells Tudum. “I’ve been to weddings where people say in their vows, ‘I never once had a doubt.’ I hear that, and I’m like, ‘That’s crazy. What do you mean?’ “
While the series sees the lead characters grapple with a “deliciously fresh horror twist,” it’s not meant to be a jump-out-of-your-seat thriller. Instead, Boston says her approach to the genre is “from a place of character and dialogue and humour and then infusing that with unsettling horror… I’m like, ‘I want to be unsettled. I want to be freaked out.’ “
Viewers can expect a few laughs, too. Speaking to The Wrap, Morrone said the series is “surprisingly funny. It’s a comedy in a lot of ways, and I think people will enjoy that whole combination,” the actress said.
