The Dhurandhar franchise continues to draw attention across the film industry, with veteran screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar sharing his thoughts on the recently released spy thriller.
Javed Akhtar praises Dhurandhar; says he personally ‘called’ Aditya Dhar after watching the film
In a recent interaction with Zoom, Akhtar spoke about watching the film and reaching out to its director, Aditya Dhar. Recounting his experience, he said, “I saw Dhurandhar. It’s a great film. Bahut achhi banayi hui hai (a very well made film). I actually found the number of the director (Aditya Dhar) and called him to congratulate this young man who has made this film. It is a very good film.”
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the Dhurandhar series explores the espionage genre through a character-driven narrative. The first instalment, released in December 2025, introduced Ranveer Singh as Hamza Ali Mazari, also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi—an undercover operative navigating a complex network of crime and intelligence operations.
The story continues in Dhurandhar The Revenge, which was released on March 19, 2026. The sequel follows the protagonist as he deals with an evolving web of political and criminal forces. The film features an ensemble cast including R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt in key roles along with Akshaye Khanna also playing a major role in the first instalment. Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera, Danish Pandor, among others comprise of the supporting cast.
While the first instalment created a roar at the box office, the sequel too has been doing record breaking business along with receiving positive responses and love from several members of the film fraternity. Rajinikanth shared his reaction on social media, while Shiva Rajkumar commented on Ranveer Singh’s performance. Filmmakers and actors such as S. S. Rajamouli, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Mahesh Babu have also spoken about the film following its release.
As conversations around Dhurandhar The Revenge continue, Akhtar’s remarks add to the ongoing industry response to the film and its approach to the spy thriller genre.
