A bald eagle in Florida has been rescued after it crash-landed into a civilian’s backyard
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office say the bird ended up in a canal that’s home to some large alligators after it tried to take flight again
Officials say the bird had a significant wing injury
Officials in Palm City, Fla., have rescued a bald eagle that landed in a canal that’s home to some large alligators.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is calling the rescue a “majestic save.” In a Facebook post, they explained the bald eagle crash-landed in a civilian’s yard in the Stuart West/Cobblestone community. Then, once it tried to take flight again, it found itself in the canal and in desperate need of saving.
A resident, who witnessed the incident, called the Sheriff’s Office, who got Animal Services involved. It was then that Animal Services Officer Shannon McGee and Corporal William Weiss waded into the water to retrieve the eagle.

However, as the eagle struggled, it began moving farther out into the water. With patience, the team was able to safely rescue the bird and bring it back to shore, out of immediate danger.
The Sheriff’s Office say they’re thankful that the resident acted fast and called them immediately.

It “played a critical role in ensuring a quick response and ultimately saving the eagle,” they said.
The bird is currently in stable condition. After being taken to a local wildlife hospital, doctors found that it sustained a significant wing injury.
“We’re grateful for the quick response and teamwork shown in this rescue,” the Sheriff’s Office said, adding that more updates on the eagle will be available in the future.
This isn’t the first time that a bald eagle has been saved this year. In February, New York City police officers rescued one that was found injured near the George Washington Bridge.
The bird had blood on its wing and stood on a broken block of ice before an officer approached it with a catch pole. Once it was saved, the eagle was taken to an animal sanctuary in New Jersey.
