Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Mayo Clinic has received a large donation for its massive expansion project.

A news release announcing the donation on Friday says the money will go towards a high-tech logistics center that’s being constructed as part of Mayo’s $5 billion expansion of its campus in downtown Rochester.
The building will also bear the name of its donors.
Grainger Family Donates $75 Million for New Downtown Rochester Mayo Clinic Logistics Facility
The Thomas and Elizabeth Grainger family has donated $75 million for the logistics building, which will be named the Grainger Building.

“We feel privileged and proud to team with an organization that not only has comprehensively delivered the best healthcare on the planet for more than 160 years but is now positioned better than ever to do more of what they do, even faster and even better,” Thomas Grainger said in a statement.
The Grainger building will serve as a “state-of-the art logistics facility that will serve the clinical buildings slated to be built as part of Mayo’s expansion, the news release says.
Grainger Building to Use AI & Robots to Keep Supplies Stocked
Mayo also says the facility will use artificial intelligence powered forecasting to automatically restock supplies for Mayo’s new downtown campus.
It will also serve as a home base for autonomous robots to deliver supplies to the new downtown clinical buildings through a 900-foot underground tunnel, the news release says.
“The Grangers have been extraordinary partners in shaping the future of healthcare,” says Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., Mayo Clinic’s president and CEO. “This innovative logistics facility is foundational to our Bold. Forward. strategy and establishes a new global standard in healthcare logistics that will redefine how care is delivered.”
The Grainger building is scheduled to open by 2028, the news release says.
