The fate of the Dynamic Island and its corresponding pill-shaped, in-display cutout on the upcoming Apple iPhone 18 lineup has been the subject of a lot of consternation in tech-savvy circles. With tipsters often contradicting each other in a relatively haphazard manner over the past few months.
Now, however, there appears to be a growing consensus that the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 series will indeed sport reduced dimensions, constituting a significant cosmetic change for a series that had been largely written off as fairly iterative.
Apple iPhone 18 lineup to sport a smaller Dynamic Island
Ice Universe, a fairly respectable tipster, has now published a post on Weibo, contending that the Apple iPhone 18 series will sport a reduced Dynamic Island (translated via Google):
“The iPhone 18 series retains the same bezel design, except for a smaller central island; the overall bezel size remains the same as the iPhone 17 series.”
According to a number of recent leaks, the proportions of the Dynamic Island on Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 lineup were expected to shrink, largely due to the Face ID module moving beneath the display, thereby allowing for a smaller pill-shaped cutout.
These leaks, however, clash with the claims made by Digital Chat Station, who continues to contend that the iPhone 18 Pro duo would feature the same chassis, camera plateau, and Dynamic Island as the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
Moreover, another Weibo-based tipster, who goes by the name Fixed Focus Digital, recently alleged that Apple was encountering problems moving sensors beneath the display, which would seriously undermine the prospects of an under-screen Face ID module, if true, thereby removing a major impetus for Apple to shrink the dimensions of the iPhone 18 lineup’s Dynamic Island.
Even so, as per today’s leak from Ice Universe, it seems Apple is leaning towards reducing the overall size of the pill-shaped Dynamic Island on the upcoming iPhone 18 series, which would, in turn, constitute a refreshing change for a largely iterative lineup.
