More than 1,000 properties have been left without power following outages in Mount Maunganui and Arataki on Sunday morning.

Powerco reported that an unplanned power cut in Arataki began at 7.52am, affecting 162 properties.

At 7.53am, a larger unplanned outage struck Mount Maunganui, impacting 918 properties.

Site investigations are underway and field crews are attending, with an estimated restoration time of 12pm.

The cause of both outages has not yet been confirmed.
