Scream 7 is still burning it all down at the box office.
The new installment in the 30-year-old meta slasher franchise features Neve Campbell returning as longtime final girl Sidney Prescott (after sitting out the sixth installment amid a pay dispute) alongside an ensemble cast that includes Isabel May, Joel McHale, Anna Camp, Jimmy Tatro, Michelle Randolph, Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, Celeste O’Connor, and returning stars Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. Original screenwriter Kevin Williamson returned to the franchise to direct 2026’s Scream 7, which premiered in theaters on February 27.
Per Deadline, as of Sunday morning, Scream 7 is projected to end its fifth weekend in theaters by hitting a cumulative global box office total of $204 million. That total comprises $118.6 million from domestic theaters and an additional $85.4 million from international markets. This makes it the first Scream movie to ever hit the $200 million milestone worldwide, not adjusted for inflation.
Overall, on the unadjusted chart for the seven-film slasher franchise, Scream 7 has long since become the highest-grossing installment. In North America, it beat out the previous record-holder, 2023’s Scream VI, which earned $108.4 million domestic. Worldwide, it surged past the $173 million earned by 1996’s Scream during its third week in theaters.
When adjusted for inflation, only the original three Scream movies rise above the seventh installment. All three have grossed more than $300 million worldwide, which is a milestone that has so far never been hit by any of the four newer entries. Below, see a breakdown of how the franchise has performed, both unadjusted and adjusted for inflation:

Regardless of its relative place among the other installments, the new movie has overcome its dismal critical reception to become a bona fide hit. Scream 7 reviews were resoundingly negative, earning it a Rotten Tomatoes score of 31% that beat out 2000’s Scream 3 (45%) as the worst in the franchise. However, it has earned a significantly stronger audience score of 75% on the platform’s Popcornmeter, which indicates that word of mouth may have something to do with the sequel’s commercial performance.
Even if it never climbs past $300 million, which seems unlikely given its current trajectory, Scream 7 has already cemented itself as a hit. The movie only cost a reported $45 million to make, which most likely places its estimated theatrical break-even point at $112.5 million. By hitting this milestone, the movie has almost doubled that total, meaning that it is probably in the black and then some.
While the possible Scream 8 has not yet been announced, it seems highly likely that the success of Scream 7 means that the franchise will return to theaters sooner than later. A follow-up has the potential to be an even bigger hit if producers make efforts to avoid the baggage that the new installment brought with it, which included last-minute crew changes, those bad reviews, and calls for boycotts in the wake of franchise star Melissa Barrera being fired from the project after sharing pro-Palestine posts on social media.
