A car has caught fire in Auckland’s Britomart this evening.

Footage sent to 1News shows the car fully engulfed in flames on Quay St.

Dark smoke could be seen filling the area near Britomart Station, as crews from Fire and Emergency New Zealand were seen hosing the vehicle down.

Police were in the area stopping people walking from getting close.

A police spokesperson confirmed the vehicle was near the harbour end of Albert St, and the fire was “almost out”.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson confirmed a rapid response vehicle was sent to the scene at about 6.22pm.

“There were no patients,” the spokesperson said.
