Easter weekend commuters travelling south on State Highway 1 were delayed because of a downed power line near Ruakākā.
Motorists reported long queues both ways on SH1 close to Uretiti, however, police have said traffic has started to clear.
An update from the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka
Kotahi earlier said the road was closed between Whangārei and Brynderwyn, with a detour in place.
