Georgie, Mandy, Missy, Mary, and Pastor Jeff all gather in the Cooper family living room, marking the first use of this particular set since the “Young Sheldon” finale. And things don’t exactly get off to a good start: almost immediately, Mary tells her daughter she’s lucky George Sr. isn’t alive, because this would have killed him. Mandy points out that this is exactly the kind of thing that would stop Missy from coming to her in the first place.

Missy then points out the obvious double standard: Georgie had sex in high school, and no one went crazy. Then again, Mary only knew about Mandy — and he married her.

“If it makes you feel any better, Sheldon will probably die a virgin,” Mandy quips.

“That is not true!” Mary exclaims. “When the time is right, he will find a wife and have a beautiful family.” (She’s not wrong, but it’s going to take him an awfully long time.)

Mary then proceeds to once again tell Mandy to stay away from Missy, at which point Missy leaps to her sister-in-law’s defense, insisting it’s not Mandy’s fault that she asked her for help.

“It’s Because she couldn’t come to you,” Mandy says.

“Why? Because I have values that you think are a joke?” Mary asks.

“I don’t think they’re a joke, I think they’re unrealistic,” Mandy counters. “Teenagers have sex.”

Pastor Jeff tries to argue that “most” save themselves for marriage, but he ultimately loses that fight — along with the idea that abstinence is “cool.” He tells Missy that her mother was only trying to keep her “safe,” which Mandy argues she was doing, too. It’s here that Georgie realizes Mandy is right, and that he’d rather Missy turn to his wife than no one at all.

“I don’t like the idea of her doing stuff with boys either,” he tells Mary. “But she can’t come to me because I’ll kick this boy’s a–, and she can’t talk to you because you’re just going to pray at her, so it’s good she’s got Mandy… So if you’re going to be mad at Mandy, be mad at me, too, because we’re a team.”

And that’s enough to get Mandy’s motor running, resulting in Georgie and his bride pulling over on the side of the road on their way home.
