Racing for the 2026 Toyota New Zealand Optimist National Championship officially begins Saturday.
The five-day regatta is being hosted by the New Plymouth Yacht Club and will run from Friday, April 3, through Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
The national event brings together youth sailors across three designated fleets to compete in the Tasman Sea off Ocean View Parade.
Three fleets will be competing – Open, White, and Green – with competitors from New Zealand, Tahiti and Fiji
Racing begins with a Qualifying Series. Based on those initial results, the competitors will then be split into a Final Series to determine the overall standings and the national champion.
