Female sailors continue to dominate the top three places on the leaderboard after Day 2 of the Toyota NZ Optimist Nationals, being sailed from New Plymouth Yacht Club.


Sailing in a northerly breeze of 10kts, Zofia Wells (Glendowie BC) dominated the racing, winning all three races in her fleet and enjoys a 6pt lead ahead of Will Handley (Murrays Bay SC) on 11pts. Ally Burfoot (Tauranga YPBC) has dropped back from second to third overall.


The series sailed in Open, Green and White fleets has attracted 153-boat entries from four countries – New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and France/New Caledonia.


Of the international entries Jack McGuire (Royal Queensland) is the top international competitor, lying 11th overall. Leo Gillard (SRC Noumea) has jumped up the points table to be 15th overall, with Carli Brodie (Laucala Bay, Fiji) in 78th. In the 86-boat Open fleet.
