Congratulations are in order for actress Aubrey Plaza, who has shared she is expecting her first child with partner Christopher Abbott.

The news was confirmed via a rep for the 41-year-old White Lotus star, who told People that the baby news was a pleasant surprise after an incredibly tough year.

“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” the source told the publication, adding that “they feel very blessed.”

Plaza’s world was turned upside down in January 2025 when her filmmaker husband Jeff Baena died suddenly at 47.

He was found dead by an assistant at his home in LA TMZ reported at the time, with the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirming Baena died by suicide.

Plaza and Abbott, 40, have reportedly been friends for some time. They have worked together on the off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea as well as the 2020 film Black Bear.

Just weeks ago, the expecting mum stepped out at Paris Fashion Week, keeping her baby bump well hidden while taking to the front row of some high profile shows.

In August last year, Plaza opened up for the first time about her husband’s sudden death.

The star broke down the “daily struggle” to Amy Poehler’s Good Hang listeners.

“Right in this very present moment, I feel happy to be with you,” she explained to her former Parks and Recreation co-star.

“Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning.”

Plaza noted that she was “very grateful to be moving through the world” and felt “OK”.

She went on to compare her mourning experience to the movie Gorge, which features two snipers guarding a gorge without knowing what’s inside.

“That’s what my grief feels like or what grief could be like,” she said.

“At all times, there’s, like, a giant ocean of just awfulness that’s just right there and I can see it.”
