A person has died after being found in a critical condition in a Christchurch suburb this afternoon.

Police were called to a property on Main North Rd, Papanui, about 2.40pm.

Acting Senior Sergeant Dougall Struthers said the person died at the scene despite efforts of emergency services.

The sudden death
is being treated as unexplained and officers were working to establish what occurred, Struthers said.
