I am back for another week and ready to go with a few of those prickly questions to deal with, check out the tier list at the bottom if you missed out on your questions a little stuck on some trade or hold options and keep those questions coming into thelonescout@nrl.com.au.

Q: Heamasi Makasini’s break even is low but he is not getting consistent scores. I’m looking to offload him. What do you think? – Stephen

A: My thoughts on trading a strong explosive runner like Heamasi Makasini or even David Fifita is with players like this it only takes one moment in a game and they can go from 20-30s to 50-60s. My question to you is – which would you find harder to take, trading them out but seeing them finally have that explosive game, or holding them one more week and have another low score? Whatever your answer to this is, is the move to make.

Perth Game Plan: Sharks v Roosters

Q: Is Naufahu Whyte a sell with potential reduced minutes due to the return of Victor Radley and Spencer Lenu? – Riley

A: Not until we see what things look like, don’t forget all these players were available last year and Naufahu Whyte still held strong minutes and output I’d wait a week or two before moving on with how tricky MIDs have been this season.

First take: Storm v Warriors

Q: Do I get rid of Stefano Utoikamanu or Trey Mooney for Alex Twal? – Ayden

A: If those are your only options here I would move on Trey Mooney as he has definitely slowed from his opening two matches. However that was also his first game back from suspension so I still have him in my hold column unless Mooney is your only weakness.

Q: Is it too late to get Alex Twal? Who should I captain this week – Payne Haas or Nathan Cleary or someone else? – Tom

A: I would say this round is still a good week to get Alex Twal before he becomes too pricey. As for captaincy I don’t try to go too risky with my skipper. Considering Haas’ AC joint injury I would look at Cleary or Twal this week instead.

Q: Is Jacob Kiraz a sell and if so who for? If you held Reed Mahoney and Bailey Hayward will they continue to score well or are the sells? – Riley

A: Jacob Kiraz just isn’t getting the same opportunities as last year, perhaps moving to left wing or his nagging shoulder concerns is the reasons. Or perhaps with Stephen Crichton playing more of an attacking centric role inside him, it has hindering his chances with the ball. With Crichton out injured Kiraz could either switch back to the right or at least get more opportunities, however beware – the Bulldogs play the Panthers this week and given their dominance so far in 2026, Kiraz could still have one more low output before starting to rise again. As for Reed Mahoney and Bailey Hayward, they are back to low break evens, so let them glide through a cash rise for this week and move on when they get the next sub 35 score.
