Key features of this LG 55-inch B5 Series TV
Alpha 8 AI processor Gen2
So one of the key differences here between the B5 and C5 is their processors. As the B5 is the more affordable of the two, it opts for a less powerful chipset, which means the C5 will handle upscaling and motion handling a bit better than this TV. That being said, it’s still a very good processor that uses AI to enhance picture and audio quality, with AI Picture Pro and AI Sound Pro, and it features all your usual gaming optimizations, too, such as support for smoother motion and VRR.
OLED screen
Of course, the big thing here is its OLED screen, which is ideal if you’re looking for super lifelike picture quality. As you’re likely aware, OLEDs are essentially the top dogs when it comes to contrast and color, and are able to produce practically zero-nit blacks, which gives them very impressive contrast ratios compared to more traditionally backlit TVs. TVs like this one are great for more dimly lit rooms or evening usage, in particular.

120Hz refresh rate, G-Sync, FreeSync Premium, and ALLM
This is the type of setup that’s more akin to a gaming monitor, in many respects. 120Hz is going to allow for 4K at 120fps, which gives you a lot of headroom for consoles like the PS5 Pro or a 4K-ready gaming PC with a modern, higher-end graphics card, like the RTX 5080, for instance. It has G-Sync and FreeSync Premium, both of which help to reduce screen tearing, with the latter offering low framerate compensation in to the mix, which is great for combating stutter when framerates dip below the TV’s bottom refresh rate. There’s also ALLM, which basically automatically recognizes when you’re using the TV for gaming, and makes adjustments to reduce latency, giving you a more responsive, gaming monitor-like experience.
Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR 10, and HLG support
So let’s break this down a bit. Dolby Vision support essentially means that this TV can use more ‘complex’ HDR data, so instead of having one setting for the entire film, it can adjust scene-by-scene or even frame-by-frame, depending on the content. HDR 10 support is pretty standard, and just means that the TV can use ‘static’ metadata, and HLG support means that this TV can handle the type of HDR used in live broadcasting, which is good as it means that watching sports, for example, will look great. Finally, Dolby Atmos is awesome and designed for surround sound setups, and can create ‘audio objects’ that travel through a 3D space. Pairing this TV with a surround sound system that has upfiring speakers, for example, would give you a super immersive experience.

Things to consider
Personally, I’m a big fan of the B-series, as I think you’re really getting a lot for your money, and it’s very well suited for most people. The only thing I’d suggest considering is the C5 if you’re planning on using this TV for PC gaming, as it has a higher refresh rate of 144Hz, and if you’re after more brightness, you’ll want the C5 also. As for other options, I always think that Hisense offers some seriously good mini-LED TVs, many of which are packed with gaming features. I’d highly recommend looking at these if you’re planning on using your TV in a well-lit room and want something bigger, for a reasonable price. Take this Hisense 65-inch model, for instance.
