Katy Perry is being investigated by Victoria Police days after Aussie actress Ruby Rose filed a sexual assault complaint against the pop star.

The Herald Sun reports that detectives from the Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation team have confirmed they are “investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010”.

Earlier this week, Rose, 40, came forward with allegations that Perry, 41, behaved inappropriately towards her while they partied together at Melbourne nightclub Spice Market back in 2010.

At the time, Rose was as a presenter for MTV Australia from 2007 to 2011, as she pursued an acting career in the US.

“Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD,” a Victoria Police spokesman told the outlet.

“As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”

A Spice Market owner also confirmed to the Herald Sun that both Rose and Perry attended the venue 16 years ago and “had way too much to drink”.

The investigation comes after Rose – who has since achieved Hollywood fame in roles such as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, XXX: Return of Xander Cage and Orange is the New Black – confirmed on Threads she had taken the matter to police.

“As of this afternoon, I have finalised all my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved,” Rose posted. “Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me.”

The actress said she welcomed the directive from authorities to stay silent on the matter.

“It’s going to look like I am ignoring everything from supportive messages, to other people’s experiences, but I’m not,” she added. “This is a standard request from the police in many ways, quite the relief. I can start the healing process now. And temporarily (sic) move forward. I love you all so much.”

Rose first came forward with her claims via a Complex Music social media post about Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s Coachella performance at the weekend.

“Katy Perry sexual(ly) assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a sh*t what she thinks,” Rose wrote on Threads.

“I was only in my early 20s. I’m now 40. It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly … I told the story publicly but changed it to be a ‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it. Later she agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret. But I DID tell yall she wasn’t a good person.”

In a series of follow-up posts, Rose claimed, “She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friend’s lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her.”

Rose added that she had photographs to corroborate her claims and added that numerous people witnessed the alleged assault.

Perry has vehemently denied the allegations via her legal team.

“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

“Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”
