UnityPoint Health to lay off some IT, Revenue Cycle staff

  • April 15, 2026

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – UnityPoint Health says it will eliminate 207 of its Information Technology positions across the state. It is also laying off some of its Revenue Cycle workers, but said an exact number was not available at this time.

The hospital system said it plans to move to third-party vendors later this year.

UnityPoint said the decision is a cost-saving measure as the price of medicine, labor and supplies increase, reimbursements are reduced, and there is more demand for complex care services.

The positions were selected to minimize the impact to patients.

There are 31,000 team members that work with UnityPoint.

UnityPoint said the savings from this decision do not benefit shareholders or investors, but will be used “for the betterment of its patients, team members, and communities.”

“Like many health systems across the country, we are navigating a period of sustained financial pressure that requires us to make difficult but necessary decisions,” UnityPoint President and CEO Scott Kizer said in a statement. “Our focus is to ensure we remain strong for the future—so we can continue delivering expert, high-quality care and expand local access for the patients and communities who depend on us.”

UnityPoint said the employees being laid off will be given a severance, benefits continuation and career transition support.
