A truck driver was left with five fractures and will require multiple surgeries following a crash on State Highway 1 that left him in a critical condition.
On Monday, Craig Clapperton, of Palmerston, was taken to hospital after a crash involving his grain truck and a logging truck north of Hampden.
His cab was severely damaged and Mr Clapperton was in a critical condition when he was freed from his vehicle by emergency services.
In a social media post, Mr Clapperton’s wife, Kelly, said he had five fractures on one side of his body and would require multiple surgeries.
He was looking at an extended stay in Dunedin Hospital.
A Givealittle page has been set up to support the Clappertons.
As of Thursday morning, the page had raised almost $7000.
