I’ve never put much thought into the charging cables I use with my phone because, more often than not, I just use the one that comes in the box. But as more manufacturers omit them from the packaging, you might eventually have to buy one yourself. That’s crazy, right? Well, if you’re going to buy just one, I recommend the Scosche Statik MagStack USB-C cable.
It’s unlike any other charging cable I’ve come across because it achieves its tangle-free design with the help of magnets. I’ve accumulated hundreds of cables while testing the best phones each year — in addition to the horde of MagSafe chargers I frequently review — but the Statik MagStack is the one I keep on my home office desk. I have a surge protector hidden underneath my desk, and the extra slack from my old cables always looked messy. But since this new one coils around itself, I can easily tuck the excess out of sight.
The magnetic sleeves naturally bond to each other, which is great because I can make the coil wide or condensed. Either way, it reduces slack so the cable doesn’t snake in weird directions like my others.

Secondly, the design has a rugged feel that gives me confidence it will last. The braided nylon jacket doesn’t just provide a premium fabric feel, it makes the cable sturdy enough to survive being pinched in a desk drawer. Traditional cables with plastic casings are prone to nicking and tearing when caught, but not this one.
On top of that, it’s not short with six feet of length to work with — so it easily reaches my surge protector. The cables that come with most phones are often half that length, which requires having a charger very close by. But with this, I can comfortably sit on my couch and charge my phone while plugged into a nearby wall outlet.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I actually bought a USB-C cable, but the $18 price tag for this tangle-free option feels more than fair. The best part is that the magnetic design makes cable management around my desk so much easier. I really can’t go back to using an ordinary cable after this.
