Is there anything more satisfying than knowing that one of Britain’s best crime dramas is returning to our screens? When we last saw Detective Superintendent Roy Grace (John Simm), things were, well, a little chaotic, to say the least. His wedding day didn’t exactly go without a hitch as his wife-to-be Cleo (Zoë Tapper) was kidnapped. It was by far the show’s biggest cliffhanger yet and one that means we’re quite literally on tenterhooks to see what happens next.

Based on the bestselling novels by Peter James, the Brighton-set series stars John Simm in the lead role of Detective Superintendent Roy Grace. When we meet him, Grace is a hard-working detective who’s haunted by the disappearance of his wife, Sandy. The new series will, thankfully, see John Simm reprise his role as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, along with Richie Campbell, who will return as the ever reliable DI Glenn Branson. Once again consisting of four standalone films, we know that the new investigations will include the titles ‘When You Are Dead’ and ‘Picture You Dead’ – intriguing! But in a move that sets the new episodes apart, ITV has said the new episodes will be based on characters from the novels rather than books themselves, so we’re expecting the seventh series to be somewhat different to what we’ve seen before.

So, what’s the story? Well, ITV is being tight-lipped about the plot, but we’re expecting the new series to answer some questions we were left with the after series seven finale, which fans will remember ended with Cleo’s (Zoë Tapper) kidnapping at her and Roy’s wedding.
