Actor Jim Sarbh has been on a high since the February premiere of the documentary Unani Ki Kahaani, in which he was the narrator, on Discovery channel. In a conversation with INDIA TODAY, he shares experiences from the project and talks about his idea of a healthy and holistic life.
Q. How was the response to Unani Ki Kahaani that aired on February 11?
A. I don’t know what the response exactly has been, but the documentary was made with real care and love, and we went to some beautiful places to film it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope the reception has been fantastic.
Q. What made you come on board?
A. I wanted to learn more about Unani—how it was developed; why Ayurveda has so much grip on Indian and international societies in general and Unani is not heard of in the same way even though it’s quite a similar system and relies on the same principles. I wanted to learn about holistic approach to health and wellness. I liked the idea of preventing problems by being ahead of them and changing my lifestyle to support that.
Q. How different is a documentary to work in than plays, films or web series? Did you need any preparation?
A. No, I just had to be curious, which was great. I just had to ask questions and learn about the plants and the system, and I found that to be a lovely experience.
Q. Any behind-the-scenes experiences that you would like to share?
A. Oh, we shot in beautiful places. Old Delhi was lovely. We shot in Kashmir, which was fantastic. The Qutub Shahi tombs in Hyderabad were the loveliest location I have ever been to. The more you learn about India, the more you get interested in its history and culture. We have such a wonderful, rich, diverse and interesting history.
Q. What can you tell about your health routine and diet?
A. You know what your body needs. Believing in very strict ideas of what a body should look like seems silly. It’s kind of a miserable life being so lean constantly, you know. People should enjoy life, be healthy and happy. Get a little bit of everything, like exercise, movement, flexibility and a clean, balanced diet. And indulge too—eat that odd chocolate, pizza.
Q. Any message for fans who admired your work?
A. Thank you so much for following me until now, and I hope you continue to. Look out for Titan; that’s coming in June. I am really excited about this project.
