It looked as though Britain’s Got Talent viewers were less than impressed.

During the first live semi-finals of the series on Saturday night (April 25), ITV viewers learnt that Amanda Holden was in charge of the Golden Buzzer for the night.

Despite the acts impressing the judges, with Simon Cowell suggesting she should press it for The Rafikiz, Amanda opted to hold out on who to pick to send straight through to the final.

Although the live audience erupted after each performance for her to ‘press the buzzer’, with Amanda admitting at one point that she couldn’t hear, she saved her moment for singer Matty Juniosa, who was the final act of the night.

Matty impressed the judges during his audition with his rendition of Purple Rain, which earned him a Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell.

When he sang Dream On during the live semi-finals, he was given a standing ovation from the judges.

Giving her verdict, Amanda said: “I asked the producers tonight, ‘If I don’t press my Golden Buzzer, what happens?’ They said it goes to the audience. Well, I said, ‘I’m not going to give it to the audience!”

Amand then pressed her buzzer as gold confetti erupted on stage, as Matty screamed with excitement. Commenting on going through to the finals, he said: “I feel great right now, life is not real, oh my god!”

It wasn’t long before people commented on her decision, with some thinking it was ‘rigged’.

One person said: “She already knew who she was giving the golden buzzer to from the start.” In agreement, another person shared: “Was clear the whole night that she was waiting for him.”

Someone else wrote: “Last act of the night, which means he’s guaranteed to get the Golden Buzzer. Typical.”

Another added: “Well. Who’d have guessed that would happen? FIX . A pro singer gets gold and wins.”

As one person wrote: “WTF is happening now with these golden buzzers, jeez just get rid of this fix.”

However, some people commented on how well-deserved Matty was to get the buzzer, as one person said: “WHAT A VOICE! Matty has to win, he is sensational”

While someone else wrote: “So deserving of the golden buzzer. I’m getting @adamlambert vibes for sure. Insanely talented.”

Elsewhere on the night, fans saw drummer Nancy Tilley, Aerialist Paul Nunnari and acrobatic performers The Rafikiz take to the stage.

Also competing for a spot in the final was dog dancing duo Anastasiia & Salsa, dance group Celtic Beat, Comedy songwriter/performer Christy Coysh and Magician Fraser Penman.

Britain’s Got Talent continues Saturdays on ITV from 7pm.
