Max Media of Coastal Virginia is making a two-pronged programming move designed to strengthen both its leadership bench and on-air presence at soft AC “92.9 The Wave” WTWV and country “97.3 The Eagle” WGH-FM in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach-Newport News market.

Veteran broadcaster Barry McKay has been promoted to Program Director/Brand Manager and afternoon host for “92.9 The Wave,” transitioning from his midday role at “97.3 The Eagle.” In his expanded position, McKay will oversee the continued development of the station’s “Yacht Rock” format while anchoring afternoons with the personality that has made him a familiar voice in the market.

A longtime presence in Coastal Virginia radio, McKay brings decades of experience and a strong connection with listeners to the role. Known for his distinctive voice and upbeat delivery, he now steps into a leadership position guiding one of the company’s newer brands.

At the same time, Jerry Hoyt has been promoted to Assistant Program Director at “97.3 The Eagle” and will assume the station’s midday slot. Hoyt’s career spans multiple markets and roles, beginning as a part-time air talent at “Z104” WNVZ in Norfolk and including stops in Washington, D.C., with CBS Radio, as well as Fredericksburg before returning to Coastal Virginia.

Hoyt rejoined Max Media in 2015 and has since become a versatile contributor across departments, including production, engineering, IT, and on-air.

“Barry was the obvious choice to take on Program Director and afternoon host duties for WTWV 92.9 The Wave,” said Keith Barton, Vice President and General Manager of Max Media of Coastal Virginia. “At the same time, Jerry ‘The Hit Man/Swiss Army Knife’ Hoyt has been an invaluable part of our team for more than 15 years. His versatility and commitment are unmatched… We’re thrilled to have Jerry step into the midday role and Assistant Program Director responsibilities at 97.3 The Eagle.”

The dual promotions highlight Max Media’s emphasis on internal development while positioning both stations for continued growth, pairing experienced leadership with familiar on-air voices to strengthen audience connections across the Coastal Virginia market.
