“A 23-year-old woman was taken into custody over the incident, and the person with injuries was transported to a medical centre on Swanson Rd,” Detective Inspector Callum McNeill said.
A detective and frontline staff were with that victim when a separate incident unfolded outside.
“Our officers have become aware of a commotion outside, where a person had been running away after being stabbed in the head,” McNeill said.
“Officers have moved outside to ascertain what was taking place, when they have seen the offender that had been chasing the victim.”

McNeill said the offender was allegedly carrying a knife when he lunged at two officers, knocking one over and striking his body armour.
The offender then ran off and allegedly stabbed another member of the public, who was waiting for a bus, in the shoulder.
“Our detective has suffered graze injuries and it is extremely fortunate that these were not serious injuries. The other officer was not injured.
“The offender, a 29-year-old man, was swiftly taken into custody by other police colleagues nearby as they were already on scene due to the earlier incident.”
McNeill said the victims from the second event are in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
“This was an extremely concerning event, and I can reassure the wider community that our inquiries suggest that we are dealing with two separate and isolated incidents.”
Shaneel Ranjay, a manager at The Fading Hub barber shop in the same block of shops, said the Local Doctors – Rānui carpark was sealed off and people were told not to leave, with 12 police cars at the scene.
“Somebody got stabbed at the back where the local doctors are. And then an old man got stabbed on the way when the police were chasing the suspect,” Ranjay told the Herald.
“The old man who got stabbed, he was trying to stop the suspect and then that’s when he got stabbed.”
Ranjay said it was the first serious incident at the building and has been “tough” for the businesses in the area.
“Apparently the barbershop over here, we are all good. The Local Doctors there were quite tense because this is the first incident which happened in our building.
“So yeah, it’s quite a tough moment because we have never seen something like this happen in our building before.”
Hato Hone St John said it was notified of the incident about 11.59am and two patients were taken to hospital.
“Four ambulances, one rapid response unit and one operations manager responded to the scene,” St John said.
“Our ambulance staff treated two patients and transported one to North Shore Hospital in a moderate condition, and the other to Auckland Hospital in a serious condition.”
A 23-year-old female was arrested for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and is due to appear at Waitākere District on May 11.
A 29-year-old male is due to appear at Waitākere District Court tomorrow charged with wounding with intent to cause GBH, injuring with intent to cause GBH and assault with a weapon.
