Dominic Sessa is stepping into the role of a young Anthony Bourdain.
A24 has released the trailer for Tony, which stars Sessa, 23, as a teenage version of the celebrated American chef, writer and television host who died at 61 in 2018.
The trailer sees Bourdain take a job at a restaurant in Provincetown, Massachusetts, out of desperation, shortly after graduating from high school and failing to land a writing fellowship.
Sessa stars alongside Emilia Jones, who plays a former high school acquaintance, as well as Dagmara Domińczyk, Rich Sommer, comedian Stavros Halkias, Leo Woodall, and Antonio Banderas, who portrays the chef at the restaurant where Bourdain finds work.
“A 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain travels to Provincetown and stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen, setting off a summer that will shape the course of his life,” reads an official synopsis for the movie.

The film comes five years after the documentary Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain, which featured archival footage from Bourdain’s life and interviews with his friends, family members and colleagues.
The Holdovers star Sessa described Tony as “a sort of origin story in a way” when he spoke with PEOPLE at the premiere of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t in November 2025. “I’m playing Bourdain sort of, you know ‘75, ‘76, that era, when he was working there in the summers,” he said.

The movie is directed by Canadian filmmaker Matt Johnson, who previously directed 2023’s BlackBerry, a movie about the rise and fall of the BlackBerry smartphone. In 2025, Johnson, 40, also released the cult comedy Nirvana: The Band – The Show – The Movie.
Tony is in theaters this summer.
