The story introduces us to Sam (Sheridan), whose new job as a cleaner in London enters her into a whole new world. The six-part crime drama stars Sheridan Smith as Sam, a struggling single mother who takes a job as a cleaner in London. Sam is also a recovering gambling addict and, in her new job, she discovers she has access to potentially lucrative stock market information, which she can’t resist using to her advantage.
With huge gambling debts to pay off and her ex-husband trying to get custody of their two daughters, she attempts to navigate the dangerous world of insider trading, accessing illegal funds to get her life back on track. Over the course of the six episodes, we see just how far Sam is willing to go to improve her life – and how dangerous the new world she finds herself in can really be.

Sheridan told Radio Times that despite her character’s flaws, there’s something deeply likeable about her: “She’s someone you immediately fall in love with: massively flawed, but you’re on her side. Morally there’s a lot she does wrong,” says the 37-year-old, “but it’s for her family – she doesn’t want to lose her girls and her house. She’s got a gambling head on her, so might get that big win. And there are these big rich companies cheating – why should they get away with it, and not some poor cleaner?”
