Analysis: Cronulla need a circuit-breaker and perhaps the return of a couple of star outside backs can provide one. Ronaldo Mulitalo has recovered from a serious knee injury suffered late last year. He’ll line up on the wing while Jesse Ramien is back in the centres. Ramien missed four games with a knee injury and will replace Sifa Talakai, who reverts back to the bench. Mulitalo takes the place of Mawene Hiroti. In a tough blow, Blayke Brailey will miss one game with a head knock. Brailey led all current NRL players in consecutive games played but that streak will end at 139. Brailey is also robbed of one final chance to impress NSW selectors. The Sharks skipper is considered one of the two leading hooker options for Laurie Daley, with Reece Robson the other. Even despite the setback, Brailey should be picked in the squad of 20 next Monday morning. This week, Jayden Berrell will wear the No. 9 jersey for the Sharks. An ankle injury will keep Cam McInnes out this weekend. He has been replaced in the starting line up by Jesse Colquhoun.

Analysis: Star winger Jacob Kiraz isn’t ready to return yet but the struggling Dogs do welcome back several other stars. Matt Burton was a late scratching against the Dolphins but is back on deck against Cronulla. He’ll slot in at five-eighth alongside Lachlan Galvin, pushing Sean O’Sullivan to the extended bench. Kurt Mann missed one game because of a head knock. He’s been named on the bench, meanwhile, prop Max King is set to start at prop. The Origin forward has been sidelined for over a month with a broken jaw. His return is huge for the Bulldogs as the forward pack have been hot and cold in his absence. They need to win the battle against the Sharks engine room to get their out-of-sorts backline on the front foot and firing again.

Analysis: Latrell Mitchell (bulging disc – back) has been named to face the Dolphins but there’s still a few hoops he’ll have to jump through to take his place. He didn’t take part in an opposed training session on Tuesday but did seem to move well earlier in the day at Rabbitohs HQ. If he can’t go, Latrell Siegwalt will retain his place in the backline. In his debut against Cronulla, Siegwalt was close to the best on the ground. While Mitchell is in some doubt to play this weekend, coach Wayne Bennett confirmed that the superstar Rabbitoh will be fine to play for the Blues in Game 1 on May 27. Alex Johnston, who sits second on the try-scoring list this season, is set to miss at least a couple of games with a knee injury. He’s been replaced on the flank by Bayleigh Bentley-Hape. David Fifita won’t play in Magic Round but he’s nearing a return. He’s a chance of playing against the Cowboys in Round 12.

Analysis: The Dolphins are on fire, having won their past two games with conviction, so it’s unsurprising to see coach Kristian Woolf not make any changes to his starting side. Jeremy Marshall-King made his first appearance of the season last week in a return from injury and was brilliant off the bench. It appears that will be Woolf’s strategy going forward with Marshall-King, letting Max Plath take the sting out of the game early before injecting the NZ dummy-half to create chaos and take advantage of some tired middle forwards. Kurt Donoghoe is close to returning from a hamstring injury. He’s been named on the extended bench in jersey No. 22.

He’ll replace Tristan Hope in the starting side.

Analysis: Cowboys coach Todd Payten has made an intriguing decision on who will replace the injured Tom Dearden. Instead of a switch into the halves for Jaxon Purdue, the Cowboys will unveil debutant Liam Sutton at five-eighth. Sutton played at centre in the Pre-Season Challenge, so there’s a chance Payten tinkers with his line up before kick off. “He’s had to work really hard to get to where he’s got. He’s been at a couple of clubs and spat out the back, I guess,” Payten said on Sutton. “He’s gone back to Q Cup, played really well for Wynnum Manly last year, got an opportunity with us, impressed us in the pre-season, he’s had a little bit of an injury battle the last few weeks but he’s finally got there. “He’s a big body, kicks well, has got a good running game.” A week after setting the club record for games played, Jason Taumalolo has been rested. Matt Lodge will start at prop alongside the in-form Tom Mikaele. Rookie Xavier Kerrisk may also debut for the Cowboys. The young dummy-half is extremely well-regarded at the club and is set for a fruitful career at the top level. He will wear the No. 14, replacing the injured Soni Luke.

Analysis: After their upset win over the Cowboys, coach Jason Ryles has named the same 19-man squad. The glaring omission is Jonah Pezet. The former Storm playmaker served a ban incurred in NSW Cup, but has been unable to force his way into the team. Ronald Volkman has played well in Pezet’s place and deserves to retain his spot. Where does that leave Pezet though? Given he’s here on a one-year deal before leaving to Brisbane, there’s no incentive for Ryles to play Pezet unless he thinks he gives the Eels the best chance to win. Metcalf asked the club for a release from the final two years of his contract in 2027 and 2028 with a number of clubs interested in his services. Mitch Barnett (concussion) returns at prop, Ali Leiataua (concussion) will slot into the centres, Wayde Egan (concussion) starts at hooker and Tanner Stowers-Smith (hamstring) all set to return.
