Chilly temperatures
Wintry temperatures are set to continue, with places such as Alexandra dropping to -2C.
“Now that we’re heading into the cooler part of the year, we can expect some cooler temperatures in the mornings with quite a few areas, especially the South Island, as you may expect, reaching the very low single digits and perhaps even the negatives,” he said.
Lynden said places like Alexandra, Twizel and central areas were set to be the coldest this weekend.
While the North Island is unlikely to be quite so cold, he said places like Taumarunui were expected to get to low single digits today and tomorrow.
Auckland will get a low of 7C today, Wellington will drop to 9C, and Christchurch will drop to 1C.
Meanwhile, Dunedin will drop to 5C and Queenstown will sink to 1C.
