A 38-year-old man has been killed in a shark attack at Rottnest Island, off Perth.
Authorities have confirmed the man was bitten by a shark just before 10am (local time) at Horseshoe Reef, north of Marjorie Bay on the western part of the island.
The man was transported by boat to the Geordie Bay jetty, where paramedics performed CPR, but he could not be revived.
Aerial vision showed a Water Police boat tethered to a smaller boat, which was equipped with spearfishing gear.

A rescue helicopter was sent to Rottnest Island in the aftermath of the attack but was later stood down.
Western Australia police will prepare a report for the coroner.

In a statement, the Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) said it received a report the man was bitten by a 4 metre shark.
The DPIRD urged people in the area to take additional caution around the Horseshoe Reef, and Marjorie Bay areas, and a department patrol vessel would be out on the water monitoring the area.
