Elevated levels of Hector’s dolphin bycatch since cameras on boats were operationalised show something needs to change, a wildlife advocacy group says.

Fisheries New Zealand has released its South Island Hector’s dolphin Bycatch Reduction Plan report for the fishing year ending October 2025, which showed eight of the dolphins were caught in commercial fishing activity throughout the year.
