Compass Media Networks has secured syndication rights for “The Quiet Storm with Lenny Green,” the long-running nighttime radio show that blends smooth R&B and slow jams. Starting June 1, Compass will manage all aspects of marketing, distribution and advertising sales for the program, which airs Monday-Thursday, 7pm-12 midnight and Sundays, 7-10pm.
“The Quiet Storm with Lenny Green” originates at MediaCo urban AC WBLS New York (107.5) and is heard on such affiliates as WJMR Milwaukee, KRMP Oklahoma City, WTUG Tuscaloosa, KJMH Lafayette and WAKB Augusta.
“The Quiet Storm” first launched at Howard University’s WHUR Washington, D.C. in 1976 under then-station manager Cathy Hughes, who would later found Radio One. San Francisco’s KBLX expanded the concept into a fulltime format in 1979. By the early 1980s, the show was originating at WBLS, where Green has been setting its warm, romantic mood since 2012.
Syndication of “The Quiet Storm” had been handled by Superadio Networks.
“I’m blessed to be in the position I’m in, and my ultimate goal is to continue to touch lives and spread love to more cities,” Green said in the announcement. “The Quiet Storm has always been about connection, passion, and bringing people together through music and conversation. I’m excited to begin this new chapter with Compass Media Networks as we continue growing the brand and reaching even more listeners nationwide.”
Nancy Abramson, Senior VP of Affiliate Sales and Content for Compass Media Networks, added, “I have admired Lenny Green and the Quiet Storm for years. Lenny is known and loved by affiliates and listeners across the country. I’m thrilled to bring The Quiet Storm with Lenny Green to our affiliates.”
