If there was one directive that Swedish interior designers and architects Studio Ramson had for this apartment project in the old-world district of Östermalm, it was this: no white. Perhaps an unusual request for a home in the heart of Stockholm, the epicentre of Scandinavian minimalism. But for a globetrotting father and his two children, the very idea behind this home was to reach beyond Scandi borders.
“The brief was to create an international feel, reflecting the client’s many years abroad,” Studio Ramson describes the colourful redesign of the classic Swedish apartment, originally built somewhere between 1921 and 1925. “The palette is warm and earthy, drawing inspiration from the tones of the surrounding façades.” Inside, the dwelling spans five bedrooms and two bathrooms. “Rather than leaning into a typically Scandinavian minimalism,” the designers explain, “the ambition was to create something more layered, intimate and enveloping.”
