A set of good Samaritan students did not take a slice of the pie when they found a pizza parlour’s cash-filled till lying in the street.
The students called police after finding the till on the ground in George St at about 10.30pm yesterday, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman, of Dunedin, said.
Inside was over $700 in cash.
When police took the till back to the station, they discovered it had been jammed shut, which prevented the thieves from liberating the cash.
Inquiries quickly led police to Sal’s Authentic New York Pizza in Great King St, Dunedin North.
Officers found the glass on the front doors was smashed in and there were signs of a forced entry.
The owners were called to secure the building, as well as to hand over CCTV to police.
Video footage captured two persons of interest, Snr Sgt Notman said.
