Police said the pedestrian, who is from the Whangaparaoa area, remains in a critical condition this morning.
The driver of the van was uninjured.
Hato Hone St John sent two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle, and one patient was taken to Auckland Hospital in a critical condition, a spokesman said.
Photos from the scene show a white van with damage to its front right corner, including a dented bonnet and smashed windscreen.

A Herald photographer said Whangaparaoa Rd was closed at the intersection with Hibiscus Coast Highway while traffic management crews assisted with closures.

The van involved in the incident was towed and the road reopened shortly after midnight, he said.
The NZ Transport Agency website shows the road has been reopened.
The Herald has requested comment from police.
