Police have taken a person into custody and opened a homicide investigation after a death in Dunedin.

Detective Inspector Shona Low said emergency services were called to a Somerville St property at 5.50pm.

Upon arriving they found a person dead. One person was taken into custody at the scene.

Cordons
have been set up, and a scene examination is currently underway.
