Overall, Martino said the weather would remain fairly calm across most regions despite a few passing showers.
“Some showers about, bit cloudy, bit cool, but on the whole, [a] pretty decent weekend and everyone should see some spots of sunshine in between.”
Temperatures will be heating up as well, with more moderate nights and warmer daytime highs expected across much of the North Island.
“For a lot of places, it is a bit warmer than we’ve been seeing,” she said.
“This last week has been pretty chilly. We’ve been seeing frosts about, some severe frosts for inland parts of the South Island.”
For most of the weekend up north, overnight temperatures will be milder than earlier this week, with some places expected to reach 20C during the day.
Northland will be climbing to 14 or 15C, while highs across the rest of the North Island will sit comfortably in the high teens.
The South Island will be a “bit cooler”, Martino said, with some frosts lingering inland, but many parts of the island would still enjoy much warmer daytime highs.
“Lots of places still managing to get up into the teens, some even the higher teens for the highs.”
While there will be some waves for the upper North Island, Martino expects they will not be particularly noticeable to anyone apart from keen surfers.
“Since I don’t imagine there’ll be that many people out on the beach, [the surf] probably wouldn’t be too obvious.”
