Avocados can last up to 31 days if they are kept in the right place, experts have said. Avocados can turn bad quite quickly, especially when they have been cut open. All of a sudden, you can find that your avocados have gone soft, and when you cut them open, they are brown instead of green on the inside. But that does not have to be the way. In fact, you can keep them fresh for a whole month if you store them right.

That is according to the food experts at Hello Fresh. “Unfortunately, the fruit has a tendency to turn sludgy brown once it’s been cut,” they say of these elusive fruits. Avocados are becoming increasingly popular in the UK, used in salads, sandwiches, and to make delicious sides like guacamole. If you want to buy your avocados ahead of time, then it’s important to know how to store them to keep them fresh for as long as possible.

Many people might not realise that you can actually put avocados into the freezer. By doing this, you can store avocados for up to a month, says Hello Fresh.

However, how you store it in the freezer is important. “First, slice or dice the flesh, removing the skin and stone,” the experts revealed.

Then, you should brush the pieces of avocado with lemon or lime juice. Finally, place it into a freezer-safe bag and pop it into the freezer.

You can then freeze it for up to a month. When you want to eat it, you simpy have to thaw it before you decide to use it. “Unless brushed with lemon or lime juice, frozen avocado may still turn brown,” they said. “Keep in mind that it will soften in the freezer.”

Other ways to stop avocados from going brown include covering them with a tight layer of cling film. “If you don’t have cling film handy, you could also try brushing the exposed avocado flesh with a light layer of olive oil,” Hello Fresh says.

On the other side of the scale, there are also ways to ripen an avocado faster if you want it soon.
