An update on when classes are to resume and when campuses are to reopen is expected later today.
The spokesperson said they hoped to reopen the campuses later this week.
In a social media post, the institute said it had notified students and staff to leave campus buildings promptly and calmly.
“The safety of our students and staff is Wintec’s priority, and is why we have taken this decision to close campuses.
“We will provide updates when more information becomes available.”
Students and staff received an email and phone alert around 11.25am saying all classes had been cancelled for today because of a potential security threat affecting campus premises.
People were asked to take their belongings and vehicles and leave promptly.
A police spokesperson said the incident was related to a recent series of bomb threats sent to organisations around New Zealand.
