In a statement this morning, Buckley Systems said, “We are deeply saddened to advise that one of our staff members has passed away as a result of this incident.
“A second staff member sustained serious injuries and is currently in a stable condition and receiving medical care.
“The wellbeing of our people is our absolute priority.
“We are providing full support to those affected and their families during this incredibly difficult time, and our thoughts are with all who have been impacted.”
The company said it was working closely with authorities, and the affected area had been secured.

“Buckley Systems is working closely with the New Zealand Police and WorkSafe New Zealand, and a thorough investigation is currently underway.
“The affected area remains secured. We are co-operating fully with all relevant authorities throughout the investigation process.”
It said it could not provide further details out of respect for those involved and to protect the integrity of the investigation.
WorkSafe said yesterday, “Currently, we are making initial inquiries to understand the circumstances of what has occurred, to determine our next steps.
“Manufacturing is one of New Zealand’s most dangerous sectors and is a priority focus for WorkSafe.
“We remind all businesses and workers of the importance of managing risks to keep people safe at work.”
Buckley Systems is a global supplier of precision electromagnets used in silicon chips, flat-panel screens, high-end medical machinery and particle accelerators.
