A “dearly loved” young boy has died after leaving a West Auckland bus while heading home from a special needs school.
The West Auckland school confirmed one of their students had died on Monday after departing from a bus.
RNZ understands the boy was under the age of 10.
A statement from the school on behalf of the prinicpal said the boy was “dearly loved” and asked for the family’s privacy to be respected.
It said the school’s board and leadership had support in place for staff and students.
“It’s really sad and a hard time for the school community and the boy’s family. He was a very loved young man.”
Police said they were unable to provide any further information on what happened to the boy but said his death had been referred to the Coroner.
The bus company said it had “no comment” when approached by RNZ.
