It’s said the average person tells one or two lies a day. Not huge lies, more the little white lies like “yes, you have lost weight” or “sorry, I’m busy that day”.
But there’s a method to the madness, an art to lying, if you will.
Now imagine perfecting that craft so well that you win almost 60 thousand dollars from it.
That’s the reality for Sam Smith, winner of Aotearoa’s first ever season of Traitors, the reality show built around lies, deception and betrayal.
Ironically though, he says he’s “worryingly bad” at telling when someone else is lying.
So how exactly did he manage to outplay everyone else?

8:30 How Tim Payne became a viral sensation
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, to say the least, for Aotearoa’s very own Wellington Pheonix Tim Payne, who went from just under 5 thousand Instagram followers to a whopping 1M in a matter of just 48 hours.
So how on earth does this happen?
Well, it all comes down to Argentinian influencer Valen Scarsini, who identified Payne as the player with the lowest follower count ahead of the FIFA World Cup, urging his followers to give his account a boost, and make him a World Cup Hero.
I guess the word influencer actually rings true in this situation; Scarsini’s call saw Payne’s Instagram profile amass followers at an alarming rate – with his follower count rising at 1,000 per minute just last Friday.
So how do you deal with becoming an (almost) overnight sensation? How does it really even happen?
