Kmart has announced the launch of a new AI-powered tool that helps shoppers visualise how products might look on them.

If you’ve ever shopped online before, you’ll know the feeling of loving a garment but being unsure whether it would suit you.

But Kmart’s latest “try-on” feature enables customers to use their phone, laptop, or iPad to upload a photo of themselves and preview a range of clothing products without even visiting a store.

Customers can access the feature via Kmart’s new AI shopping assistant, Joy, now available on the Kmart website.

The feature will also be available via the app in June.

In partnership with Google Cloud, the latest feature is designed to make online shopping more “intuitive, personalised and seamless for customers”.

This isn’t the first time the retail giant has introduced new technology on their website to enchance the online shopping experience.

In 2020, Kmart brought in an augmented reality (AR) feature to make it easier to see how furniture would look in your home.

You could see whether that couch, side table or chest of drawers would fit in your space by pointing the camera in the desired section, and the item would pop up on your phone.

By using Joy, customers can also ask questions and find suggested products faster.

Bernard Wilson, Kmart’s chief customer officer, said the latest offerings are a “major step forward”.

Using the same technology, customers can also view home products positioned in their own spaces, such as coffee tables, couches, side tables and more.

“Customers aren’t just searching anymore; they’re engaging conversationally and looking for ideas and guidance,” he said.

“Joy and our AI experiences help them narrow the choices and find what’s right, across Kmart’s range of great products at low prices. This is a major step forward.”

“Our focus is on what customers value most: inspiration and affordable everyday products. Being focused on what you need and ensuring it’s the best product for what you require is key — especially when budgets are tight for families.”
