Hill said several police officers negotiated with the woman before she finally stepped out of the vehicle 45 minutes later.
Police alleged she then tried to flee on foot.
“Given the seriousness of the threats that had been made, a police dog and a sponge round were used to effect an arrest,” Hill said.
Video of the arrest obtained by the Herald shows seven police cars establishing a shutdown of King St from the Shaw St intersection.
The woman is seen in the carpark of Thirsty Liquor Redruth speaking with officers while appearing to film the incident on her phone.
She then turns and begins walking towards her vehicle.
Eight police officers were involved in the arrest of a woman in Timaru.
Moments later, a loud bang is heard and the woman screams, raising her arms towards her face.
A police dog latches on to her left hip and pulls her towards eight waiting officers, who move in to handcuff her as she lies face down on the concrete.
Police said the woman was taken to hospital for the dog bite.
She was charged with threatening to kill or cause grievous bodily harm and refusing to provide a blood sample.
