A car has crashed into a tree on a Waikato back road this evening, with the occupants suffering serious injuries.

Police said they went to the crash between Tukairangi Rd and Oruanui Rd in Wairakei, near Taupō after 7.25pm.

“Initial information indicates there are serious injuries,” they said.

The road
is expected to remain closed through this evening and motorists were advised to take alternative routes.
