Now, a PR expert has issued a warning and said the highly “unusual” move can be seen as contradictory, following the years of her championing her privacy.
Meghan famously told Oprah Winfrey in 2021: “I think everyone has a basic right to privacy. Basic. We’re not talking about anything that anybody else wouldn’t expect.”
But she specified that she never asked for complete privacy, but rather asked to be able to show “parts of their lives” they were “comfortable with”.
She said: “I think life is about being able to share our stories and share parts of our lives that you’re comfortable with.
“So it’s about boundaries. And it’s about respect. They’ve created a false narrative. I mean, I’ve never talked about privacy. I think that’s just a basic understanding.”
Now, Renae Smith, founder of PR and branding agency The Atticism, told the Daily Express: “From a PR perspective, the posting spree is unusual mainly because it highlights the contradiction that has followed Harry and Meghan for years.
“They have consistently asked for privacy, spoken about the dangers of online exposure, and very recently, Meghan discussed children’s safety online. Then, days later, she is posting a significant amount of highly personal content, including glimpses of her children and family life.
“That tension between wanting privacy and wanting to share selectively remains one of the more confusing aspects of their overall brand.”
She added: “That said, selective sharing is not uncommon among public figures.
“Research in digital marketing consistently shows that personal and behind-the-scenes content tends to generate stronger engagement than polished promotional posts because audiences feel they are seeing something more intimate and authentic.
“So if her goal was to deepen the connection with her core audience and reinforce the family-focused lifestyle brand she is building, then the strategy makes sense. Whether it helps rebuild her broader popularity is another question entirely.”
