Police have released the name of an Auckland man who died in a crash in central Taupō late last month.

He was John Preston, 65, of Manukau, who died after a collision on Te Heuheu St on Friday, May 29.

Emergency services were called to the crash, near the Ruapehu
St roundabout, just before 6.30pm. Preston died at the scene and two others were critically injured.

Police are appealing for witnesses, including anyone who saw the crash or the manner of driving of the vehicles involved.

“We’re also appealing to anyone with dashcam footage or business owners along Te Heuheu St to review their CCTV footage,” a police spokesperson said.
